Christophe STREICHENBERGER from June 22 to July 31 2017

STREICHENBERGER Christophe was born in Paris in 1962. He was introduced to painting at an early age. At the end of his studies, he worked during ten years for the Bank of the picture and since 1993 he dedicated exclusively to painting. His painting combines two aesthetic approaches that could be assumed irreconcilable. One, conceptual, appropriates some of the codes of advertising and fashion photography, geometric figures, empty sidereal, cool colors, the other expressive, organic, carries a current which Francis Bacon, among other, is an accomplishment.

Robert COMBAS (Lithographys)

Robert Combas is a French painter and sculptor, born May 25, 1957 in Lyon, France and now living and working in Paris. He is widely recognized as a progenitor of the Figuration Libre Movement that began in Paris around 1980 as a reaction to the art establishment in general and minimalism and conceptual art in particular.Figuration Libre is often regarded as having roots in Fauvism and Expressionism and is linked to contemporary movements such as Bad Painting and Neo-expressionism. It draws on pop cultural influences such as graffiti, cartoons and rock music in an attempt to produce a more varied, direct and honest reflection of contemporary society, often satirizing or critiquing its excesses.Combas’ own work has always been strongly rooted in depictions of the human figure. The figures are often in wild, violent or orgiastic settings. Usually on large, often unstretched canvases, Combas crowds his flat pictorial space with a teeming proliferation of bodies, street poetry and designs reminiscent of the compulsive patterning in much folk and outsider art. He creates hectic narratives of war, crime, sex, celebration and transgression—in short, every phase that makes up the constant flux of modern life. While Combas’ works often seem to carry an element of shock or confrontation, he insists the images are meant to engage the viewer, and their execution in vibrant color and bold, unfettered line communicate a spirit of proletarian camaraderie that offsets the tendency to overwhelm, in the larger works especially.

Nicolas DUBREUILLE aka NICO from May 20 to June 20 2017

From the design world, Nico devotes himself to sculpture since the beginnings of 2000 and develops a very personal work, funny and eccentric. His shapes in lacquered resin or acrylic drawings on rice paper evoke the Great Moderns (Arp, Brancusi, Calder,...), reminding the Disney's of Bertrand lavier and could be assimilated, at the same time, to minimalism, pop art, and free figuration. Matrix shapes, geometrical, totemic, interlocked one in the other. His constructions suggest fictional characters, animals, habitats, architectures. They reveal themselves, using the monochrome and dazzling vivid colors: yellow, red, blue, green...

Pierre-François GRIMALDI

Born in 1969, Pierre-François GRIMALDI lives and works in Paris. His work begins by a search for material : posters from 30's to 50's still present in the Parisian Metro. It was during renovations of stations that the artist , as an archaeologist, on the trail of the past and appropriates these posters. Memory of History , these pieces of paper exposed and vulnerable witness of their time either in their subject ( politics, advertising , informative ) and their graphic content, typography and color palette used.Pierre-François GRIMALDI collects , rediscovered and renovated them in his workshop. It creates paper compositions that are stuck on canvas to give them another reading direction in a permanent aesthetic research. These compositions are both abstract , modern , strong, colorful and unique. In a society where image is omnipresent and our urban landscape is saturated, the artist will find the remains of forgotten premise of our mass consumption. In the footsteps of the New Realists ( Jacques Villeglé , Raymond Hains ) , joined his art of the assembly and accumulation of elements taken from everyday reality, but here belonging to the past. Modernity trumps nostalgia.A contemporary poetry with old faces codes.

Autodidact, Fernando COSTA or "COSTA" works with salvaged material... yet not any ones: enamelled plates! He transforms road signs and street signs into mosaics. Two universes mix: one is abstract, and reminds us of Soulages' work, the other is resolutely figurative, and does not lack of humour. In 2013, I signed the Official Art Car of the 24 heures du Mans.

ALBAN

Alban (b. 1967) lives and works in Paris. He is graduated from the Ecole des Gobelins art school in Paris with a degree in graphic design and a degree in animated movies. Alban has worked as a set designer for the cinema industry. His art has been exhibited over the past 10 years in art galleries in Paris and London and is present in many private collections around the world. The first impression on discovering Alban’s art is usually that of surprise. These old rusty pieces of metal are actually faked – they are combined sculptures and paintings that have been constructed by the artist out of wood, plaster and resin. They look heavy, but are in fact very light.Alban takes his inspiration from aircraft wrecks and industrial machinery, but the scale is distorted, colours are magnified and the subject itself is often invented. His work incorporates iconic representations of various cultures through the use of flags, symbols and language, thus creating something that, although it never really existed, can still resonate with our memories and imagination. Like artists from the Hyperrealism movement, Alban is playing with illusions and the notion that the real and the reproduced have often become dangerously interchangeable.

Sylvain LANG

Born in 1965, Sylvain Lang lives and works in Nancy. His work is mainly pictorial even if it uses the paths of conceptual art, particularly through video installations.Like the Impressionists, he painted the Reality and Life. His realistic work takes us into instantaneous visions of life and everyday. The various subjects of his paintings speak of our time, based primarily on the representation of living (bathing scenes by the sea, crowd in the street) but also everyday objects (Italian coffee, Vespa) are for him contemporary icons. Sylvain Lang appropriates mythical forms embedded in our collective unconscious, moments of universal life. He offers us another interpretation of reality.

Didier CHAMIZO

Born in Cahors in 1951, Chamizo is a contemporary artist whose pictorial work is figurative and comes from lettrism; now perceived as an alternative to graffiti and tag art. Chamizo is mostly known to be the creator of what is called lettric abstraction-figuration. His striking paintings criticize the consumerist everyday life from social, political, philosophical and aesthetical points of view. Chamizo synthesizes this everyday experience into suggestive and well recognized symbols. Chamizo is an engaged artist in the post-modern understanding. He condemns an Art market from which artists from developing countries are discarded. Chamizo exhibits his art with the most reckoned artists of his era like Jeff Koons, Arman, Niki de Saint-Phalle, César, Combas, the Di Rosa brothers, Kenny Scharf, Birk Dietman, Erro, Antonio Segui...

Hervé PERDRIEL from February 05 to March 09 2015

Each photography is an identity card that functions like a story whithin a story, hare and hounds: extremely bright faces and portraits contrast with the dark black background, calling to a double distance look. Afar, they are colored portraits. Closely, the matter in which these portraits are made appears: a multitude of other pictures. For each one, Hervé PERDRIEL sets an intimate portrait, an invisible "ID card" of a character, imaginary or real...

DINELLI from December 15 to January 25 2015

"The postwar boom saw architects and renowned design and urban planners imagine a Modernist architecture, even utopian, in response to the housing crisis. A bright future seemed destined for such visionary buildings. But the ideals of the time habitats are not those of today and this shift gives a taste of "fool's paradise" in this dazzling architecture, with its repetitive forms, and now seems devoid of poetry, like empty of a humanity that yet holds in it.My painting is a portrait between temptation to throw, crumple, and fascinating shapes, materials. I like to transcend the lines, colors, space, put it into folds, box ... to better expose it to new looks." DINELLI, artiste peintre.

André CERVERA, born in 1962, lives and works in Sète (Hérault-FRANCE) and randomly many trips. Attached to the school Sète, it does not yet recognize the Figuration Libre. "It is true that I rubbed Combas and Hervé Di Rosa, he said I was impregnated by these artists, but I am a free spirit ... ". Some would see a new called "Latin expressionism" identifiable by virtue of its own style ... Like the character "kind" home, painting André Cervera is a thought in motion, instinctive and pressure. She is both nervous and sophisticated. Always questioning ... When painted, the artist says his own relationship to the world.

He got the opportunity to work as a decor specialist for the cinema. After 7 years in the craft, he ended his career and decided to devote himself entirely to painting with the recurring theme of comics' characters. He befriended superheroes and supervilains on impressive oil canvas to free them from their original bubbles. His work is always impregnated with humanity and lots of irony...

Florent POUJADE from May 16 to June 16 2014

PIOC PPC from March 06 to April 11 2014

Born in 1987, PIOC PPC is a multidisciplinary artist. Its main mediums are on canvas and wall painting, outdoors, collages and photography. He has notably exhibited on the walls of the cities of Paris, Berlin, London or Los Angeles. The Nature is the matrix of his inspiration. The pictorial representation of a "Wolf's head" graphic, colourful and contrasting is omnipresent in his work. His passion for wolves also led him to meet them, to photograph them in extreme conditions. The Wolf is a symbol. In this exhibition, we are faced with a pack of wolves that implies to ask ourselves about our own species and our place in a society in perpetual evolution. This is a work where the spiritual is combined with creativity and gives to see strong and powerful works that make sense, and reminds us to our own animality.

Eric LIOT

Born in 1964, Eric LIOT is successively painter, sculptor, collagist and assembler. Many disciplines and techniques of creation set him today as an accomplished artist. Past twenty years, Eric Liot becomes an image recoverer and feeds images and characters from everyday. We meet either our favorite heroes, customary consumption figures or characters from cartoons, movies, and video games. Liot is firmly camped in the tradition of the found object and assembly. Liot collages consist of found objects, elements of comics, cardboard packaging. He arranges the different materials and thus tells new stories. he subtracts the objects from their original purpose utility and thereby adds a new quality esthetic.

Christian NESLER

Sea PixelsDuring his wanderings on the beaches of the île de Ré, the sculptor Christian Nesler "photographs" in his way of the remains of failed trawlers.Original pirate, he brings back his invaluable booty of materials in his workshop. Then he cuts in the chain saw the hulls to transform them in regular squares such as the "pixels". Then he assembles them according to abstract compositions where materials and colors create singular atmospheres. Sculptured "paintings", wooden photos, marquetry? … Every piece is unique. We do not exactly know how to name this work where we can read superimposing of stories, a game on the concept nature / culture, a work on the memory, a new birth.
