Michadu: Shaping the Imagination, Sculpting Humanity 11 December 2025 – Posted in: Articles – Tags: https://www.artjingle.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/12/Galerie-Art-Jingle-Jerome-MESNAGER-En-Apesanteur-Ref-.-129-42-x-39-cm-2025.jpg
For Michadu, metal is not just a material: it is a living substance, a partner in dialogue, a realm of exploration. From his studio in Ploëzal, where he has been working since 2005, this self-taught sculptor shapes iron with instinct, sensitivity, and an almost primal energy. Inspired by his many travels, he confronts the raw material like a “gladiator of the imagination,” driven by the desire to give form to whatever stirs his emotions—be it current events or simply the breath of music.
His creative process is almost ritualistic. “Using an angle grinder, I cut and begin to shape the piece, then I grind and polish it. I tame the iron under the flame of my torch and give it its final form. Next comes the welding torch, which I use to join the different pieces together. At that point, I add or remove a section. Finally, by playing with patinas, I give my sculptures a final touch of life,” he explains. Through this sequence of precise and powerful gestures, the metal is transformed: it bends, opens up, and soars, until it becomes a figure.
For Michadu’s sculptures speak, above all, of humanity. They inhabit a deconstructed, sensual, allegorical universe that oscillates between light and shadow. His figures—sometimes monumental—question our place in the contemporary world. They unsettle, amuse, and at times disturb, evoking a profound, almost philosophical sense of the burlesque. Implicit within them is the spirit of Bruegel, the freedom of Dubuffet, and the intensity of Rebeyrolles—all tinged with a joyful earthiness reminiscent of Rabelais.
Both figurative and dreamlike, Michadu’s works form a vibrant fusion where the medium conveys what words sometimes struggle to express. They invite everyone to see differently, to feel differently, and to let themselves be carried away by that sixth sense in which the artist himself places complete trust.
