Nanan: Sculpting Light and Reinventing the Ordinary 11 December 2025 – Posted in: Articles – Tags:

A multidisciplinary French artist, Nanan has been exploring the boundaries between sculpture, painting, photography, and design for over ten years. At the heart of his approach is the repurposing of everyday objects—recycled, transformed, and reinvented. Drawing inspiration from consumer culture and urban aesthetics, he creates a world populated by hybrid, poetic, and luminous creatures.

With his Urban Lights project, Nanan positions himself at the intersection of art toys and design. He hunts for old car and moped headlights—relics of a mechanical past—and gives them a second life. These headlights become luminous heads, attached to bodies molded from resin: endearing lamp-figures that straddle the line between sculpture and art object. Each one has its own identity, attitude, and style—sometimes even words inscribed on its body, like tattoos telling their story.

Over the years, Nanan has built a veritable contemporary mythology: his “boys,” his hybrids, and his unique figures seem animated by an inner energy and a character all their own. From simple vintage objects, he brings to life characters that make us wonder, touch our hearts, or amuse us, resonating with our imagination., Nanan: Sculpting Light and Reinventing the Ordinary
